On an overcast Saturday in May, we were able to get out to Cale's "Black Book Character Battle" that took place at Pellegrino Printers in Glendale, California, which featured a twenty one and under contest with a slew of prizes ranging from paints and pens to cell phone cases and slap packs; the ultimate prize being twenty four shirts printed on the spot -direct to garment- with the winners design. Guests were also treated to a line-up of some of Los Angeles' finest graffiti writers and artists throwing up characters  ... AISE, CALE, TETRIS, DEITY, KYM, SELF, TEWSR, and 2SHAE
As for the event itself, we arrived on the scene just as the graffer's were starting to evolve their canvases into characters. Each one using anything from their fingers to paint cans to complete their creations. Old school hip-hop was blastin' and it began to bang the drums around until the vibe got into your veins. The all-age crowd of about one hundred fifty was definitely feeling it as they moved from character to character with questions, comments and awe.
The graffers were feeding off the energy too and embracing everything thrown their way. They took time from their work to answer the questions and welcome the comments or criticism; and of course sign blackbooks and 228s. You know we had to cop some labels for our collection and stack our packs full of some of the best out there for you all.

While this was taking place, there was still a blackbook battle going on that included anyone twenty one and under. Any person who wanted to enter had until five o'clock -about two hours- to complete their best black and white character. Again, the grand prize being twenty four shirts printed with the winners design. Second and third place also received smaller printing prizes, along with the other art goodies up for grabs.

This was a great event that allowed the public, especially the youth, to really get involved with their local graffiti writer and artists and see the world as it can be.

Hats off to
Cale for a stellar event. The world thanks you and, if nobody else, AGNTS thanks you.
